Virtual Advent Post: My Favorite Christmas Memory

Photobucket
Christmas has always held a special meaning in my heart. This time of year brings up feelings of love, family, and togetherness.

One of my favorite Christmas memories took place eight years ago, on December 18, 2001. My wedding day!

That day started off with John and I heading to the courthouse to get our marriage license. While we waited our turn, we spent our time working on our Christmas cards. The first time I wrote my married name was when I signed our Christmas cards.

That evening, we were married in our home, in front of our Christmas tree. We had only two guests, two of our closest friends who served as witnesses. Oh, I can’t forget our oldest, John III, who was only two years old at the time.

It wasn’t a big celebration with tons of guests and mountains of presents, but it was OUR celebration :)

So, not only am I celebrating the spirit of Christmas around this time of year, but I’m also celebrating the anniversary of my wedding! So, Happy Anniversary, John! I love you!

I rarely meet anyone else who got married in December (my husband and I will celebrate our 10th anniversary on the 22nd). Wonderful post, and happy anniversary a few days in advance!

  2. Well, happy (almost) anniversary! I can see why that’s your favorite Christmas memory… :-)

  3. This such a great story Jenn. I just love that the two of you worked on your Christmas cards together on your wedding day and were married in front of the tree. Sounds fabulous to me. Happy Anniversary!

What a beautiful post. A friend of mine got married on the 23rd, 20 years ago, now – that was a beatiful Christmasey wedding. Yours sounds so intimate and special.

Sounds like a lovely setting for a wedding. Happy Anniversary!

I also remember that day vividly. From the line at the courthouse to picking up veggies and cheesecake for the (2) guests; the cold, misty weather to borrowing a video camera to document the day; picking our Christmas themed outfits, to “jumping the broom” after the ceremony… The lack of choreography made it memorable and more importantly, truly OUR day. It may not have been a fairytale wedding, but it’s a day I’ll always remember and for more than just saying “I do”. Happy (early) Anniversary, Jenn! I love you too! ;)

Sounds absolutely beautiful! My great grandparents had an “at home” wedding, and I’ve always loved reading their wedding announcement and imagining it all.

This is a mom who loves you both and would have been glad to have helped you with a wedding, but the important thing was that you did it your way, because it was your wedding. Your comments are tender and sweet. I wish you happiness for many years to come. May your love grow stronger as your lives intertwine with your support of each other.

    Happy Anniversary.

I got married on the other side of Christmas – on January 8 – so our anniversary is always tied to the holidays as well. We planned it partly because all the Christmas decorations would be up at the church and we could save a lot of money on flowers so we ended up getting married in front of a pair of Christmas trees, too. :)

That’s a very special story – and I enjoyed your family’s comments too. Having support in doing things the way you want is wonderful. It is such a busy time of year to fit a wedding into – Exhibit A, your sending out cards while waiting for your license ;0) But it sounds like it was beautiful. Happy Anniversary.

  19. What a wonderful memory, Jenn. One of my friends just got married this past Friday. I think this would be such a great time to get married. Congratulations on your 8 years of marriage and I hope you continue to have many more wonderful years together.
