Yesterday, my boys & I had the pleasure of meeting the author of Chicken Butt and Chicken Butt’s Back (amongst many others!) at One More Page Books yesterday.
My youngest son, Justin, has been obsessed with these books for some time. We’ve read each book dozens of times. When he learned Erica was coming to our indie bookstore, he was ecstatic and began a countdown to “Chicken Butt Day!”
Yesterday, bright & early, I heard a the pitter patter of little feet, then thumping down the stairs, “It’s Chicken Butt day” shouted by the top of his lungs. Although the event didn’t til the afternoon, Justin was ready to go!
When we arrived at the store, Justin introduced himself to Erica. He was so excited about the book that Erica did a little video of him talking about the book to post on her web site. Once the video has been posted I’ll be sure to share it with you all.
Here are just a few pictures of the event:
Erica reads Chicken Butt to the children
The kids check out the book trailer for Chicken Butt
Erica has hats made for each of her books. Here’s Erica & some of the children (Justin included) sporting the hats.
The funniest part of the day was when Erica introduced the children to Chicken Butt, a little chicken that shouts the famous lines from the book. The kids (mostly Justin) couldn’t stop playing with it.
Justin had both of his books signed & then we headed home.
Guess who came home with us:
(He had a long day)
And so did Justin!
A great event overall!
This week, I’ll be preparing to attend Book Expo America (BEA) in NY!
In case you missed it, here’s what happened last week on the blog:
- Frightful Friday: The White Devil by Justin Evans
- Review: Faith by Jennifer Haigh
- Love vs. Hate: Book Characters You Love to Hate
- Review: Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion

OMG, I dont feel like I’ve ever read a better post. Maybe it’s because I have a three year old boy who would SO get a kick out of such a count down and event. ;O)
Aww… how sweet. I will attending BEA too. Have Fun!!
Wow, what a great event. My daughter looks forward to her school’s annual author visit every year — she would love something like this!

Oh, I adore seeing authors reading to children. Those are great shots, from beginning to end. Especially Chicken Butt under the covers…LOL
I haven’t read this series…my kids are grown and my youngest grandson is into Diary of a Wimpy Kid, which he reads to himself (he’s eight).
When I go into a bookstore and it’s reading day, I get that little niggle of remembered joy.
Thanks for sharing.
Here’s MY SUNDAY SALON POST
What a heartwarming post! I love how excited your son was about meeting the author. That will be a wonderful memory for both of you! Have fun at BEA!

I wish I could have been there!
This was quite an enjoyable experience for all, it seems! Even Chicken Butt had a great day. I enjoyed this tremendously and being Mama, I must share on Facebook!
I have to say I wonder what impression the author carries home with her about her influence in these stories and future events that CB might have!
