Gearing Up for Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-a-thon!

Tomorrow at 8 am I’ll be joining over 300 other readers for Dewey’s 24 Hour read-a-thon! The read-a-thon by far is one of my favorite blogger events. When else can you dedicate 24 hours to reading, but also connect with a bunch of other great readers? You still have time to sign up if you are interested!

I have my snacks all lined up!  A few sweets (I didn’t survive the last two read-a-thons without my freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies!) as well as some nutritious snacks as well.

This year, I decided not to plan my reading selections in advance.  I think I’m going to go with the flow and pick up books from my bookshelf randomly.

Another new thing I’m doing this year-cheerleading! I’m head cheerleader for Team Keats, and we’ll be cheering for all readers A-C.  Check out my awesome squad:

  • Darren at Bart’s Bookshelf
  • Beth F at Beth Fish Reads
  • Kelly McClymer
  • Elizabeth at Miss Wisabus
  • Cristina at Kiki’s Bookcation
  • Trisha at eclectic/eccentric
  • Alyce at At Home with Books
  • Swimmer at Books, Writing and More, Oh My
  • Stacy at Book Psmith
  • Shesten at I Heart Monster
  • Kris at The Cajun Book Lady
  • Welski at Musings and Writings
  • Rachel at Chaos is a Friend of Mine
  • Shelley at Book Clutter
  • Julie at jflamingo reflections
  • Debi
  • If you join us for the read-a-thon, there is still time to sign up to be a cheerleader! I can tell you from experience that cheerleaders are an extremely necessary part of the read-a-thon!  It’s their job to encourage readers and give them a jolt of energy when required!

Rather than posting every hour or so, I’ll only be doing three posts: the kick-off-post, a half-time post, and a wrap-up post.  I don’t want to overwhelm my followers with too many updates! Instead, I will be installing a widget on my blog linked to my twitter feed so you’ll be able to check my progress that way. Be sure to check back in tomorrow to see how I’m doing!

Participating in the read-a-thon tomorrow? What sort of books (and snacks!) do you have lined up?

    1. I envy your coolness in the book selection department. I’ve been obsessing over my readathon pile for over a month now, and I won’t admit how many more books I bought just for tomorrow’s event (*cough* 8 *cough*). I am re-reading several old YA books though as a shout out to my man Christopher Pike. And three graphic novels (two short ones, one normal length). And then just a bunch of other stuff. I know I won’t get to it all, but I really wanted to start off with a sense of accomplishment. As for snacks- the final selections will be made later today, but now you have me torn between cookies or brownies! See you on twitter!

      Keats is sweet
But Wordsworth is the best team on earth!

(Also, a little hard to rhyme…why did I go with the poet with the long-ass name?!?)

      I’m with Soft Drink…Wordsworth is where it’s at. =)

I’m TRYING to go with the flow as I know it’s more enjoyable, but it’s hard for me not to plan! I already know the top 4 books I want to read tomorrow (couldn’t stop myself from thinking about it)!

Have fun! My daughter and I pulled set aside some books last week, but I’m already changing my mind about some of them. We’re going to Serena’s (Savvy Verse & Wit) so I need to bring plenty of books to choose from.

    5. I’m going to do some unofficial cheerleading tomorrow, but probably all on Twitter since I’ll be on my Blackberry in the car.

    6. MarthaE says:

Hey – Jenn. I’ve been added to your team! I wrote a poem/cheer. When and where do I post it. :) GO A-Cs!

    7. Lizzie says:

So you are on the East Coast too? We are in the B’s so I look forward to your cheer-leading. It is our first read-a-thon and we are making it a mother daughter event. Wish I could have laid in more fun snacks for today but I have pizza dough in the bread machine and pumpkin muffins to start so let the games begin!

Have fun! Wish I could participate but we’re moving soon so have to devote my weekends to that. But, I’ll be sure to check in. Happy reading!
