New Feature: Virginia is for…Book Lovers!

Virginia is known for many things, our great wine, historic locations like Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Manassas. Virginia is also known for it’s amazing writers! Thanks to Michelle at Galleysmith, I’ve decided to start a new feature highlighting authors from my state, the Commonwealth of Virginia, by doing a review of one of their books. This feature will be called “Virginia is for Lovers…of Books!” When I was doing my research on authors from VA, I came up with a pretty amazing list:

Geraldine Brooks
Willa Cather
John Grisham
Barbara Kingsolver
Adriana Trigiani
Elizabeth Massie
David Baldacci
Patricia Cornwell
Sharyn McCrumb
Tom Wolfe
….and many many more!

Authors/Publicists-If you have a book written by a VA author (born in, or currently residing in) that you would like featured, please use the Contact Me Page to tell me about it!

Thank you to Heather from A High and Hidden Place for designing the amazing button you see above!

Check back in the coming weeks to find out more about all the amazing authors that have come out of Virginia!

I think it's a great idea! You'll definitely have your hands full with the abundance of Virginia authors. I can already see other bloggers following suit with their home states.

  2. Michelle says:

I'm glad you like the concept! I'm going to be trying to come up with a name for my reading across America series now.

Can't wait to see this come to life. :)

  3. bermudaonion says:

This is a great feature and boy, do you have some great authors to choose from.

  4. Beth says:

What a great idea! And what an awesome list of authors! I'm going to go see if we have anybody good who lives in Connecticut! We used to have Martha Stewart, but I think she's since moved.

  5. Nicole says:

Great idea Jenn!. Virginia has some good ones. Looking forward to this.

  6. Dawn - She is Too Fond of Books says:

Fantastic idea for a new feature! Is Michelle trying to find people for all 50 states? I'd definitely be willing to highlight authors from Mass. I tend to read a lot of them, but I don't point it out :)

  7. I Heart Monster says:

great idea :o ) Looking forward to it in the future!!

  8. Pam says:

This is such s great idea. I have been trying to read local (Atlanta) authors, as well. Enjoy your reading!

  9. Jenners says:

What a cool idea!!! Maybe I can do it with my home state … NJ. But maybe I should check out which authors came from here before I commit to that concept … it might be terrible ones!!!

  10. Gwendolyn B. says:

Hey! I've been working on doing this for Rhode Island! We may be small, but we've got a lot to say around here! I better get my plan in gear!

  11. Michelle says:

For anyone who may be interested in participating and claiming their State, province, country etc. Feel free to jump over to my blog posting at http://www.galleysmith.com/2009/07/12/introducing-the-literary-road-trip/ to participate.

Big thanks to Jen for letting me pimp it here in her thread! :)

  12. Rebecca :) says:

This is cool, Jenn! I am doing the Take me away posts featuring authors and books from different countries so I think I will leave the states to others, but I love the idea. NC has a few good ones- Nicholas Sparks, of course, but also O. Henry and Kathy Reichs and Anne Tyler, among others. Will everyone be linking back to one place with these posts? I wouldn't want to miss any!

  13. Literate Housewife says:

I had no idea that Willa Cather is from Virginia!!! I came over after seeing GalleySmith's post today. I need to be sure to add you to my Google Reader. I thought I had, but you know how that goes…

This is a great idea! I have a post I'm writing covering the kick off of CeCe Bell's latest children's book. She's from the Ironto/Shawsville area of Virginia. Can I participate with that blog entry?

  14. Toni says:

I like this whole idea… gets me thinking of Cali for sure…

  15. Sheila DeChantal says:

  17. Wendi says:

Have you checked out Novel Destinations?

  18. Beth F says:

Cool! I have to make up my list soon.

  19. janflora says:
