I would love to read this! I saw it the other day and it sounded great. I don’t have any good contractor stories myself — but my step-dad was a stonemason, so I heard about the local coke-headed contractor crazy who ran off to Canada with a lot of building equipment, deposits and wasn’t heard from again for several years. I think he turned up in town not too long ago — a little rough for wear. (I great up in Vermont, so Canada was only an hour away)

  5. wendy says:

OO, OO, OO, enter me! Once.
Twice – I mentioned it on my blog.
Thrice – My husband was a contractor for 16 yrs!!!!! Just recently quit the business, too much stress! Lots of stories though. I could write a book. My husband had this stuffed cat, he and one of his employees would leave it in unusual places on the job site, port-a-jon, wood pile, table saw, etc. they would try to out do each other.

Hey Jenn, please enter me. I don’t know if this is a funny contractor story but it has to do with my dad who thinks he is one. Whenever you get him to do absolutely anything to do with fixing anything at all you have to follow right behind him and make sure he doesn’t wreck anything else in the process of his fixing-it’s quite nerve wracking! I also blogged about your giveaway here:

I would love to win a copy of this book.

I don’t really have a funny contractor’s story. The only time I have dealt with a contractor was after we purchased our new house. One of our walls developed an extreme bend/buckle in it. It took over a year of faxing and calling the contractor to get them to come fix it. I finally started calling them every day repeatedly and they got so tired of me calling they actually came and fixed the problem.

  10. Alea says:

Ooh la la! I tried for this one and got rejected! I’d love to be entered! I don’t have a contractor story but when I was in high school we had our roof redone and one of the guys was just the cutest! I remember me and a friend were doing something on the second floor when he was hanging right in the window on a ladder or something, we had a giggling fit! To top it off he had the cutest dog! I think I took a picture of my sister and the dog even!

I shouldn’t enter since I have so many books to read, but I’ve read only great things about this book!

So, yes, I’ll throw my hat in the ring!

Hmmm, husband-as-contractor story … years ago in our first house we bought a simple little Dust Buster. I asked J to hang it on the wall in the laundry room, so it could charge. He installed the hanging bracket, and we thought all was well… months later we realized that he had drilled thru a PVC pipe and every time I ran the washing machine, water was running into the basement! Ugh! We had to call a *real* contractor to patch the pipe! A very expensive Dust Buster :)

I’d love to win this! Actually my sister in law left her husband of 21 years for the contractor who remodeled their bathroom.

  16. Mary says:

    I blogged about your giveaway.

My husband acted as contractor for a bathroom re-do a few years ago. Everything went great until the day the new bathtub was delivered. I was in a room with a view of the staircase that the guys were climbing with the new tub. No more than 2 minutes later the guys were on their way back down the stairs WITH the tub. Apparently, someone goofed (I’m not saying who…) and the drain hole, etc had been drilled on the wrong end of the tub. Ooops. Hubby wasn’t laughing but I had to go in another room so I could!! We saved a lot of $$ with hubby doing the contracting. And had a lot of laughs as we learned.

  17. Bonnie says:

Add my name to the contest please, this sounds like a funny book.

    I’ve blogged about as well.

A funny contractor story…Hmmm, my husband decided to be the contractor for our home remodeling project in our last house. He was going to paint our living room which had cathedral ceilings. He borrowed a ladder from our neighbor and that ladder sat in our living room just like the cover of the book for over a year. But, it didn’t have a negligee hanging from it and the room wasn’t pretty! It was an ugly room with old sculptured avocado green carpeting, matching curtains that were sun rotted and a plant hanger hanging on the wall that the previous owner’s ex-wife had thought was chic as she had made it in ceramics class. He finally did get the job done and the living room looked gorgeous!

I’d love to read this. I wish I had a great contractor story — but my husband and I have acted as our own general contractors and there really aren’t any good stories to tell.

I need to compare experiences; worked for a female contractor for one year in NC. Hmm, maybe I should write a book…in the meantime, I really would like to read this one. Never heard of it until about five days ago; now it is everywhere!! Thanks for the opportunity.

I have a contractor story. We were getting our house remodeled. The guys working on the house did not speak English very well. They apparently called my husband and asked if we wanted the flooring installed throughout the entire house in one day. My husband of course said, “Sure!”.

When I got home from work. Every stick of furniture was on my front and back lawn, the door was wide open, the cat was gone and my baby’s crib was dismantled and leaning by a trash can. And..there were no floors!

By the number of beer cans littering the front lawn, I expected to find two drunk contractors and that is exactly what happened! Not passed out, but frantically searching for the cat.

Needless to say I was LIVID. They also stole my son’s piggy bank money. How low can one go?

  24. Janel says:

Sounds great! I’d love to win it! Thanks for giving it away.

  25. Sherri says:

Please add my name to the list, I’d love to win this book!

When we lived in northwestern NJ we had a Princess Victorian house. We wanted to convert the attic into a Master suite. We hired this contractor to do the work-he was highly recommended and seemed very knowledgeable in historical renovations. He started working and my girls, who were only little at the time, invited him for lunch one day. Then the next day they wanted to make cookies for him so we did and he enjoyed cookies and milk with the girls. My husband would come home for lunch sometimes and we would all have lunch together. Months went by and the work was getting done at an ok pace. Next thing I realize the work started slowing down when it should have been wrapping up! The next thing I knew I got a call from the contractor’s wife (they both went to our church so she knew me). She called to complain that since her husband had started working on our house he had gained 15 pounds and she wanted us to stop feeding him!! I told the girls to stop asking the contractor to lunch and cookies so they did. The contractor almost refused to finish the job unless the girls and I still baked cookies for him! Crazy huh. Needless to say my husband told the contractor in no uncertain terms either finish or he’ll get someone else to finish the job! He did finish the job but was very short with the girls and I after he told the contractor that. We still laugh about it to this day-very odd I thought!

Contractor story: I live in Florida and after Hurricane Wilma a few years ago EVERYONE (almost) needed a new roof. The roofing contractors were going crazy! A friend of mine came home and found the roofer removing his roof to install his new one…only he didn’t need a roof. The contractor was at the right house number but the wrong street! p.s. My friend got a new roof, free of charge.
