Twilight, by Stephenie Meyer

I recently read an article that discussed how more adults are reading young adult fiction than ever before. I trace this back to the amazing Harry Potter books by J.K Rowling.

I became one of these such adults this weekend, when I finally read book one of the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. I was skeptical when I started reading…I didn’t think I would be drawin in, but not 20 pages in and I was hooked.

Seventeen year-old Isabella moves to a small town in Washington. A quiet, dull, boring town, so she thinks. That is, until she meets Edward, a classmate of hers that just happens to be a vampire. Edward’s “coven” aren’t just any ordinary vampires–they’ve given up feasting on human blood and instead decide to hunt animals.

The romance and suspense draw the reader in immediately. The descriptive language captivates the reader…no matter their age.

Friday Night Knitting Club

Georgia Walker is a busy single mom that juggles running a knitting store in Manhattan with raising a 13 year old biracial daughter. Several of her patrons decide to start a knitting club, called “The Friday Night Knitting Club.” The members of this club share much more than knitting patterns and technique. They share their lives, their pain, their triumphs!

When I picked up this book, I thought it was going to be one of those happy, lovey, chick lit type books. But it’s so much more than that. I grew to love the characters, they became a part of my life. I’m truly going to miss them!

Change of Heart, Jodi Picoult

Shay Bourne is on death row for killing a police officer and his stepdaughter. Shay’s last wish before his execution is to donate his heart to save the life of his victims’ daughter/sister.

This book makes one question religion and asks you:

“Would you give up your vengeance against someone you hate if it meant saving someone you love? Would you want your dreams to come true if it meant granting your enemy’s dying wish?”

The Year of Fog by Michelle Richmond

Abby Mason, soon-to-be stepmother, loses her future step daughter on a foggy San Francisco Beach. The book follows her search for Emma, a search that continues even after Emma’s father and police have lost all hope.

Overall, this was an excellent book. However, the story did seem to drag on a bit. I just wanted to skip to the end of the book and find out if Emma is ever found. I’d still recommend this book, giving it a 3.5 out of 5.
