Snowpocalypse 2009

Our local weathermen started talking about an impending “historic” snow storm we were predicted to get this weekend.  Of course, the entire area doesn’t handle snow well, so I didn’t believe it was going to be as bad as they predicted.  For once, they were right.  Following are pictures I took throughout the day, starting first thing this morning through 6 pm this evening.

Needless to say, we haven’t left the house today.  Schools have already announced that they will not open on Monday and Tuesday, so my oldest son’s Christmas break has already started!

Tomorrow I plan to spend most of the day reading, and perhaps make a few dozen cookies.  That is, if my back recovers from all the shoveling I’ve been doing today!

Looks like you guys got hit pretty hard. We’ve only gotten a few inches so far (knock wood). Stay warm, don’t overdo the shoveling, and enjoy your reading!

All we got was rain, but our son is still in Virginia, waiting for the roads to clear, so he can come home for his break.

Not only were they right about it snowing, they were right about the amount! I can’t remember the last time that happened.

Are us Californians allowed to comment on how pretty it looks?

Jenn that is a typical Canadian snowstorm (if that was in Canada). I hope your son enjoys his xmas vacation. Happy reading and baking. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Hey, you guys sent the cold weather to FL even. Of course, we don’t have snow but it was 46 degrees here this morning!! Too darn cold for us. Enjoy your time off baking and reading. Hopefully the sun will take care of a lot of that snow for you.

Wow. You guys got a lot more than we did. Rest that back!

Wow, and people think being Canadian sucks!! Here in my part of the World, (Ontario) we have not a drop of white stuff. Personally I think it’s too cold to snow here.

    Safe shovelling!!

Eeep! “Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful, when you have no place to go, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow..” Who ever wrote that did not have to shovel a mountain like you did! Happy Holidays!

OH Man! I remember those days! Of course now I live in Arizona, and we get a little bit in my town, but nothing remotely close to what I saw when I lived back East. Keep warm!

Wowza, that is a lot of snow. I’m not sure we’ve even gotten that much at once in the 5 years I lived in Chicago, in the DC-area that’s sort of crazy. One of my favorite memories of being in DC was the day we got a few inches of snow (not sure how many, maybe 3 or 4?) and there were signs out flashing “DC Snow Emergency.” I had a picture of one of them, but it may have been lost when my hard drive crashed, sadly. Even as someone who had lived in California for about 15 years at that point I thought it was sort of silly.

I know what you mean about the forecasters often getting all hyped up over what turns out to be not much of a storm. But in this case – wow! You really got it! I hope you and your family had fun in the snow, Jenn!
